A new Tennessee bill could prevent transgender females from competing against biologicals females in sports, according to reports.

The HB 1572 bill would require students at secondary and elementary schools to compete in sports purely based on their biological sex, and not what they 'identify as,' according to the Tennessee Star.

The bill, which was submitted by State Rep. Bruce Griffey (R), would make it mandatory for schools to comply with gender segregation.

If the bill is passed, schools will face fines up to $10,000 for non-compliance with the bill.

The measure highlights that violations of such a policy would also result in schools losing public funding sources.

If the bill is passed, schools will face fines up to $10,000 for non-compliance with the bill.

According to a portion of the bill, it reads:

"Each elementary and secondary school in this state that receives any type of public funding from this state or a local government, or both, shall require, for an official or unofficial school-sanctioned athletic or sporting event, that each athlete participating in the athletic or sporting event participates with and competes against other athletes based on the athlete's biological sex as indicated on the athlete's original birth certificate issued at the time of birth."

Griffey also stated that sex and gender simply couldn't be altered because people feel a particular way.

“We are seeing more and more transgender athletes competing and posting victories in traditionally gendered sports competitions, and doing so to the detriment of girls and women biologically born female," Griffey admitted.

“Boys and men, due to testosterone levels, bigger bone structure, greater lung capacity, and larger heart size have physical advantages in sports relative to girls and women."

Griffey added that the bill is in contrast to a measure put forward by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The bill is in contrast to a measure put forward by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The House passed the Equality Act in May this year with unanimous support from Democrats.

The bill aimed to make “gender identity” a protected category under federal anti-discrimination laws, as it is in Canada.

“With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushing through passage in the U.S. House of Representative HR 5 — the Equality Act — that, among other things, creates a civil right for male athletes to self-identify as females in sports competitions, I believe it is important for states to take a stand," Griffey added.

“This is what I seek to do through the filing of House Bill 1572."

Earlier this month, a petition, calling for biological male transgender athletes to be banned from competing in female sports events, went viral.

The petition reached a staggering 165,000 signatures so far.

Soule filed a federal complaint against the Connecticut state policy that mandates biological boys to enter girls’ athletics competitions if they "identify" as female.

The campaign was launched over the summer but has quickly gathered momentum towards the end of the year.
