Senator Hawley: The FBI 'Meddled’ In 2016 Presidential Election
Horowitz’s report is 'really damning' for the FBI

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) said that the FBI "effectively meddled" in the 2016 election during an interview with “Fox & Friends” in response to the Department of Justice’s inspector general report by Michael Horowitz.
Hawley argued that the FBI interfered in the 2016 presidential election, declaring the Horowitz’s report is “really damning” for the bureau.
“What’s worse: is it worse to have a foreign government trying to interfere in our election, or is it worse to have our own government? Because that’s what the FBI did,” Hawley said.
“Essentially, the Democrat Party bought themselves an FBI investigation," he added.
"The Democrats went out and paid for this fake dossier, they fed it to the FBI, and the FBI used it to get surveillance of the Trump campaign during a presidential election. This has never happened before in American history.”

“The Horowitz report, the IG report is really damning. It shows that the FBI bought this hook, line, and sinker. There needs to be some big league reforms there,” he continued.
Hawley emphasized that the findings are a “huge deal.”
“I don’t know how Americans can have confidence that the FBI won’t interfere in the future in our elections,” Hawley stated.
He added:
“The facts are this: the Democrat committee paid for a fake dossier, fed it to the FBI, and the FBI used it to interfere in an ongoing presidential campaign. It’s unbelievable. It can never happen again; we have to make sure of that.”

On Tuesday, Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham described the Horowitz report as "criminal," during an interview on “Hannity."
Horowitz’s report is a full assessment of how and why the FBI chose to investigate the Donald Trump campaign for supposed collusion with Russia.
According to the report, the investigation began on legal ground, but it is critical of the FBI’s handling of intelligence from former MI6 spy Christopher Steele, whose accusations against Trump were used to obtain Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Application (FISA) warrants against Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
The report reads:
“[T]he FBI obtained additional information raising significant questions about the reliability of the Steele election reporting, the FBI failed to reassess the Steele reporting relied upon in the FISA applications."
