AOC Compares Raising Children to Dog Breeding
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez makes bizzare comparison during congressional hearings
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) compared paid family leave to 'dog breeding' during congressional hearings and on Twitter, arguing that dogs are permitted more time with their puppies than newborn babies with their parents.
The video clip of AOC's bizarre remarks was noted by Seattle-based radio host Jason Rantz:
“Thinking she’s being clever at a House Oversight Committee, AOC makes a bizarre comparison between dog breeding and raising children, appears to suggest that dogs are given rights to raise their puppies for a certain length of time. Uhmm…?”
During the congressional hearing, Ocasio-Cortez says:
“Um, do we know how long puppies are allowed to stay with their mothers after a dog has given birth?”
“Uh, eight weeks,” AOC snapped.
“So, the market has decided that women and people who give birth deserve less time with their children than a dog, and I think that that at its core has shown that the market has failed to treat people with dignity and with basic respect.”
“And so when that happens, I think it’s our job as the public to redefine the rules of society and to peep, and to treat people who give birth with the dignity that they deserve,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
Ocasio-Cortez took her argument to Twitter, claiming that dog breeding was similar to raising children in society:
“Puppies aren’t separated from their moms until ~8 weeks. Less than that is thought of as harmful or abusive. One of the most common lengths of US paid family leave is ~6 weeks. So yes, when we ‘let the market decide’ on parental leave, ‘the market’ treats people worse than dogs.”
“At a bare minimum, we need to fight for three months paid family leave in the United States,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.

“Ideally, I believe we should have 6-12 months of paid leave – just as many other industrial nations do.”
AOC made the comparisons “an apparent attempt to dispute Heritage Foundation scholar Rachel Greszler, who had advocated businesses and workers negotiating their own terms for wages and paid leave," as Fox News noted.
Greszler blasted Ocasio-Cortez in a statement to Fox News:
As a woman who has given birth to six children, “I find being compared to a breeding dog with puppies incredibly offensive. What AOC failed to point out is the reason many states require puppies to spend at least eight weeks with their mothers is in the context of them being sold to people after that period.”
The socialist Rep also faced a grilling online for her comments.
Actor Adam Baldwin remarked that Ocasio-Cortez made a distinction between women and “people who give birth,” calling AOC “NewSpeak Barbie.”
Former White House official Steven Cheung tweeted:
“AOC comparing raising children to breeding dogs shouldn’t surprise anyone. This is standard fare for the Congresswoman. Further proof that elections have consequences.”
This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez has made comparisons that have fallen way off the mark.
In June this year, she compared detention centers on the Southern border to Nazi concentration camps.
Telling her millions of social media followers, AOC said Trump and his administration are "running concentration camps on our southern border."
"That is exactly what they are. They are concentration camps," Ocasio-Cortez said during a live-stream on her Instagram account that currently has 3.6 million followers.
