'Fake University' ICE Sting Branded 'Cruel & Appalling' By Dems, Started Under Obama
Operation resulted in deportations for around 250 illegal immigrants
Following ICE's “fake university” sting on Wednesday, which saw more than 90 illegal immigrants arrested for posing as students, both liberals and Democrats expressed outrage despite it being originally launched under President Barack Obama in 2015.
The sting was part of an operation that set up a fake university in a “pay to stay” scam, which offered noncitizens status as students.
The operation resulted in visa fraud charges and deportations for around 250 illegal immigrants.
But many Democrats took to Twitter to denounce President Donald Trump for using a fake university in their raid.
Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said this sting was grounds to “abolish ICE.”
Meanwhile, Sen. Elizabeth Warren called it “cruel and appalling.”
The Trump administration was heavily criticized for coming up with the fake university operation.
But it wasn't the Trump administration that came up with the scheme.
Unfortunately for the Democrats, it was the Obama administration.
Activist Ben Speilberg said that not only was Obama responsible for the idea, but he also sed a similar sting operation in 2013.
“ICE began this outrageous fake college entrapment scheme in 2015. ICE did the same thing to over 1,000 students in New Jersey in 2016 (they opened the fake New Jersey college in 2013).”

This is cruel and appalling. These students simply dreamed of getting the high-quality higher education America can offer. ICE deceived and entrapped them, just to deport them. https://t.co/t6kQLiV5oh— Elizabeth Warren (@ewarren) November 27, 2019

Trump has frequently been blamed for policies that originally came from the Obama administration.
In June, Obama's former ICE chief said it was Obama who came up with the idea of putting illegal immigrant children in the “cages,” despite Democrats blaming the idea on Trump.
Thomas Homan, who was Obama’s executive associate director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement between May 2013 and 2017, was responsible for “promoting public safety and national security by maintaining direct oversight of critical ICE programs and operations to identify, locate, arrest, detain and remove illegal aliens from the United States."
"I’ve been to that facility, where they talk about cages. That facility was built under President Obama under (Homeland Security) Secretary Jeh Johnson. I was there because I was there when it was built," said Homan.
Homan recalled a Democratic chairman who asked a Trump official, "you still keeping kids in cages?”
He snapped, “I would answer the question, ‘The kids are being housed in the same facility built under the Obama administration."
"If you want to call them cages, call them cages. But if the left wants to call them cages and the Democrats want to call them cages, then they have to accept the fact that they were built and funded in FY 2015.”
