Man Who Burst Trump Balloon Receives Thousands In Donations To Help With Legal Fees
Trump supporters rush to the aid of Trump ballon slasher
During Donald Trump's visit to Tuscaloosa to catch the Alabama-Louisiana State University game on Saturday, a crowd of anti-Trump protesters gathered equipped with a giant balloon of the president in a diaper.
But Trump supporter Hoyt Deau Hutchinson vowed on Facebook that he intended to pop the balloon:
The Daily Mail reported: "He posted a Facebook video before the incident saying he was ‘going down here to make a scene … y’all watch the news. … I’m shaking I’m so mad right now. I’m fixin’ to pop this balloon. Stay tuned. It should be interesting.'”
Hutchison, 32, slashed the Trump balloon and was later arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief.
According to a statement from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, police:
“Officers observed Hoyt Deau Hutchinson, age 32 of Tuscaloosa, AL, cut into the ‘Baby Trump’ balloon, and then attempted to flee the area. Officers apprehended the suspect and took him into custody on a charge of Criminal Mischief First Degree. Hoyt was transported to Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he was held on a $2,500 bond."
But fellow Trump supporters rushed to Hutchinson's aide.
On donation site GoFundMe, MAGA supporters raised more than $38,000.
According to one fundraising page, which claimed to be the official site for Hutchinson:
“Help raise money to pay legal fees and restitutions for Hoyt. He was charged with a felony criminal mischief after deflation of the disrespectful baby trump balloon.
"Hoyt made sure our beloved president didn’t have to see this disrespectful balloon on the streets of Ttown today!!."
So far, more than 1,700 people have donated.
The page stated the funds would be used to pay Hutchinson's legal fees, and “all proceeds not needed for legal fees will be donated to the Trump 2020 campaign to further support this great country.”
Another GoFundMe page, called “FREE HOYT,” managed to raise more than $13,000 in 24 hours.
The page stated:
“Let’s help Hoyt with the financial fees that will come with the court process! I have personally been in touch with Hoyt every day since Saturday, and he has decided the money he doesn’t use for his court costs will be donated to the Republican Party."
Last year, London Mayor Sadiq Kahn first gave the "Trump baby" balloon the green light to fly near parliament during the president's UK visit.
The group behind the ballon - who call themselves anti-fascist "art activists" - said balloon as an "obscene mutant clone of the president" and says it will "hold up a huge mirror of truth" to the world.
In June this year, a British Trump supporter live-streamed herself bursting the "Trump Baby" balloon with a pair of scissors as protesters attempted to fly it in London's Hyde Park.
The woman, who goes by the name "Based Amy," was subsequently surrounded by angered protesters before being arrested by London police for carrying a blade.
Video footage captured the moment she popped the balloon before declaring "did it."
