Ex-CIA Head Celebrates Trump Impeachment: ‘Thank God for the Deep State’
Former Acting CIA Director John McLaughlin expresses gratitude in interview

Former acting CIA Director John McLaughlin expressed gratitude for the deep state's role in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
Appearing on the “2020 Vision: Intelligence and the U.S. Presidential Election” event hosted by the Michael V. Hayden Cente, McLaughlin openly lauded the "deep state.”
CBS reporter Margaret Brennan reminded McLaughlin that the origin of the impeachment inquiry likely facilitated Trump's concerns about the deep state.
“There is something unique you have to agree that now that the impeachment inquiry is underway, sparked by a complaint from someone within the intelligence community, it feeds the president’s concern, an often-used term about a ‘deep state’ being there to take him out,” she said.

"Well, you know, thank God for the 'deep state,'" McLaughlin responded.
"Everyone here has seen this progression of diplomats and intelligence officers and White House people trooping up to Capitol Hill right now, and these are people doing their duty and responding to a higher call," he continued.
"With all of the people who knew what was going on here, it took an intelligence officer to step forward and say something about it, which was the trigger that unleashed everything else."
McLaughlin was referring to the complaint filed by the whistleblower against Trump for his July call with Ukraine.
He went on to praise the intelligence community:
"This is the institution within the U.S. government -- that with all of its flaws, and it makes mistakes -- is institutionally committed to objectivity and telling the truth," he said.
"It is one of the few institutions in Washington that is not in a chain of command that makes or implements policy. Its whole job is to speak the truth -- it's engraved in marble in the lobby."

Last week, the New York Times editorial board member also praised the deep state as 'heroes.'
The piece was titled, “They Are Not the Resistance. They Are Not a Cabal. They Are Public Servants. Let us now praise these not-silent heroes."
However, in predictable NYT style, the article bizarrely attempts to re-brand the idea of the deep state from being 'tyrannical' to 'heroic.'
A member of the editorial board wrote:
"President Trump is right: The deep state is alive and well. But it is not the sinister, anti-democratic cabal of his fever dreams."
"It is, rather, a collection of patriotic public servants — career diplomats, scientists, intelligence officers, and others — who, from within the bowels of this corrupt and corrupting administration, have somehow remembered that their duty is to protect the interests, not of a particular leader, but of the American people."
