AOC: Democrats Are 'Secretly' More Extreme Than They Admit in Public
Progressive lawmaker reveals an 'open secret' in interview

Progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has claimed that many moderate Democrats have admitted to her that they are much more extreme in their views than they allow the public to see, according to a recent interview.
Ocasio-Cortez was referring to the Democrats removing moderate members in an interview with The Intercept.
"When I first got here," she said in the interview.
"Quite a few members told me it's an open secret that the more conservative members of the party quietly support primary challengers to certain progressives as well… so the way I kinda think about it is might as well be honest about it."

The self-proclaimed socialist Democrat noted her support of a more liberal challenger to Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), one of the few Democrats in Congress that are against abortion.
When Ocasio-Cortez was asked about the House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer remarks saying Democrats could still be pro-life, she said:
"He's free to believe that obviously, I'm not here to say that he's wrong," she said.
"I'm saying we have different takes, and I think that an anti-choice position is a relic of our past and it is firmly in the Republican ideology, and I do not think that is what our party should be standing for," Ocasio-Cortez concluded.

AOC added that Democrats were secretly supporting progressive primary alternates to moderate Democrats due to threats by Democratic leadership of retribution.
Last week, Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) lashed out at President Donald Trump claiming released phone conversation transcript between him and the Ukrainian president shows an "outright betrayal of our country."
House Democrats accuse President Trump of using US military aid as leverage to pressure Ukraine to probe former Vice President Joe Biden's family dealings in the Eastern European country.
However, while the newly released transcript of the call shows Trump seeking a review of Joe Biden's family dealings in Ukraine, the document does not prove Trump explicitly leveraging US aid as part of a quid pro quo - an allegation Democrats cited when pressing forward with the president's impeachment.
