Trump Shreds Tlaib’s Teary News Conference: 'Sorry, I Don’t Buy Her Tears’
Congresswoman's teary news conference met with criticism from President
President Donald Trump shredded Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s emotional news conference where she accused Israeli officials of treating her unfairly.
After the congresswoman was barred from Israel with Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), she demanded to be allowed to see her elderly grandmother in Palestine on "humanitarian grounds," but when Israel honored her request she refused the offer.
Trump weighed on congresswoman's antics.
“Sorry, I don’t buy Rep. Tlaib’s tears,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly, WORDS, for far too long. Now tears?”
Tlaib described her she chose not to visit her grandmother in Palestine, despite Israeli officials granting her request.
But critics have accused Tlaib of politicizing the incident and choosing her hatred of Israel over her own grandmother.
As the congresswoman choked back tears, she explained how her grandmother supported her decision not to visit Israel.
“She said I’m her dream manifested,” she said.
“I’m her free bird so why would I come back and be caged and bow down?”
But Trump reminded the world why Rep. Tlaib was anti-Israel.
“She hates Israel and all Jewish people,” he wrote.
“She is an anti-Semite. She and her three friends are the new face of the Democrat Party. Live with it!”
But congresswomen said Trump was wrong for supporting Israel’s decision to bar them over their support for BDS.
They argued they were going to see “the occupation” on the ground for themselves as members of Congress.
Sorry, I don’t buy Rep. Tlaib’s tears. I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly, WORDS, for far too long. Now tears? She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite. She and her 3 friends are the new face of the Democrat Party. Live with it!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 20, 2019
It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 15, 2019
“It is unfortunate that Prime Minister Netanyahu has taken a page out of Trump’s book, and even direction from Trump, to deny us this opportunity,” Tlaib said at the press conference.
“We cannot let Trump and Netanyahu succeed in hiding the cold reality of the occupation, hiding the full reality of the occupation from us,” Omar said.
Things to note about Tlaib's anti Semitism
In May, Tlaib (D-MI) famously stated that she got a "calming feeling" when thinking about the Holocaust.
The lawmaker made the statement during an interview where she attributed the emotions to a false claim that her Palestinian ancestors provided a "haven" for Jewish victims of the tragedy.
Tlaib is often found at the center of anti-Semitic controversy, made the ignorant claim during an episode of a podcast called "Skullduggery," titled "From Rashida with Love."
"There’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people's passports," Tlaib says around the 28 minute mark.
