During the 2020 Democrat debate, presidential hopeful Cory Booker complained that a president should talk about transgenders more

During Wednesday night's first Democratic 2020 presidential candidate debate, Sen. Cory Booker complained that Americans "do not talk enough" about transgenders.

White House hopeful Booker argued that the United States needs a president that will talk about transgenders more, "especially African-American trans-Americans."

Interrupting the other Democrats on the Stage, Booker declared:

“We do not talk enough about trans-Americans, especially African American trans-Americans, and even incredibly high rates of murder right now.”

Booker compared transgender struggles to the civil rights of black Americans, recalling a time when they were lynched in America.

Booker also claimed that up to 30 percent of LGBT schoolchildren were afraid to go to school.

He didn't elaborate on how many of this percentage were confused about their gender, however, rather than being bullied over their sexuality.

Nor did he provide any data on the number of people allegedly being murdered for being transgender.

The New Jersey senator then argued that Democrats need to do more than just support the proposed Equality Act in Congress.

“We need to have a president that will fight to protect LGBTQ Americans every single day from violence,” he said.

Booker's fellow Democrat, celebrity congresswoman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), mocked the 2020 hopefuls during a Wednesday appearance on CBS’s “The Late Show.”

Ocasio-Cortez told host Stephen Colbert that “some folks” during the MSNBC Democratic candidates’ debate were acting like high school kids who “didn’t seem like they read the book.”

Partial transcript as follows:

OCASIO-CORTEZ: "I think sometimes with the debate stage this big, it can kind of seem like a high school classroom, and so there are some folks that, like, didn’t seem like they read the book, and then they got called on. And then —"
COLBERT: "Anybody in particular?"
OCASIO-CORTEZ: “You know, you kind of like— it depends on the question.
"So— so they’ll answer the question or they’ll get called on, and I don’t think some candidates thought that they were going to get called on, on a certain question.
"And they’ll be like, 'Yes, the hero was courageous and the protagonist of the story.'"
