Speaker Pelosi claims she will 'pray for the president' after Trump blasted Democrats

Following Wednesday's failed White House meeting with senior Democrats, which Trump blamed on the Dems' "phony investigations" into him during a surprise presser, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has responded by claiming she "will pray for the president."

During the Rose Garden press conference, President Trump blasted senior Democrats Pelosi and House Majority Leader Chuck Schumer over their continued allegations against him, saying he can't work with them "under these conditions."

While speaking to the press from the White House, Trump also singled out House Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who he described as "an enemy of mine for many years."

The president cut short a scheduled meeting on infrastructure with the Dems on Wednesday afternoon after Pelosi alleged just a few hours earlier that Trump is involved in a “cover-up” related the Russia Probe.

President Trump says he won't continue negotiating an infrastructure deal until the Democrats stop investigating into his administration and accusing him of Russian collusion.

According to the Daily Caller, Pelosi claimed in a press conference that the president may have had a “lack of confidence” in negotiating the deal and suggested he used her comments about a “cover-up” as an excuse to avoid the meeting.

“Maybe it was lack of confidence on his part that he really couldn’t match the greatness of the challenge that we have — wasn’t really respectful of the Congress and the White House working together. He just took a pass,” Pelosi said.

“It just makes me wonder why he did that.

"In any event, I pray for the President of the United States.”

“We went in the spirit of bipartisanship to find common ground with the president. He came into the room, made a statement — I won’t even characterize it,” Pelosi said.

The meeting was the second related to infrastructure after the Democrats and Trump tentatively reached a $2 trillion deal last month.

On Tuesday night, the president sent a letter to Pelosi and Schumer asking them to ratify the USMCA before passing an infrastructure bill.

After the meeting's failure, President Trump took aim at senior Democrats during a surprise White House press conference on Wednesday, in which he called for an end to the Dems' "phony investigations."

“I came here for a meeting with Democrats, not thinking that they wanted to do infrastructure or anything else other than investigate,” Trump opened his remarks.

“Nancy Pelosi, just before our meeting, made a statement that we believe that the president of the United States is engaged in a cover-up.”

“I just wanted to let you know that I walked into the room and told Sen. Schumer, Speaker Pelosi, ‘I want to do infrastructure, I want to do it more than you want to do it. I would be really good at that. That’s what I do. But you know what? You can’t do it under these circumstances. So get these phony investigations over with,'” Trump continued.

Trump presented his message with a sign on his lectern that contained several facts about the Mueller investigation, including the price tag and the number of witnesses interviewed, with the message “No Collusion, No Obstruction.”

The White House also passed out handouts that contained stats such as, “nearly 500 search warrants” and “more than 2,500 subpoenas.”
