Trump Warns UK And EU They Face US Sanctions Unless They Stop Helping Iran
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warns policy could put them on collision course
But the UK and EU’s joint policy towards the country could be putting them on a collision course with the US, according to Pompeo.
He added that Washington wouldn't hesitate to issue sanctions against British and European companies if they carried on doing business with Iran.
He said: “If the transaction is sanctionable there will be sanctions against those involved in that transaction.”
At the moment, the only trade allowed by the US now between Iran and the world is humanitarian supplies.
Special assistant to the US President and senior director for weapons of mass destruction, Tim Morrison, said warned that helping Iran is a “poor business decision.”
“If you are a bank, an investor, an insurer or other business in Europe, you should know that getting involved in the special purpose vehicle is a very poor business decision," Morrison said.
The term “special purpose vehicle” means a protocol devised to help Iranian companies make some trade outside their country’s borders to avoid sanctions.
The term is described by the European Union External Action’s website as “a legal entity to facilitate legitimate financial transactions with Iran.”

Trump stated that the new wave of sanctions was just the first step unless ran “fundamentally alters its conduct.”
The harsh move comes after President Hassan Rouhani declared he would not abide by some of the terms agreed on the Iran nuclear deal in 2015.
