Cher Blasts Bernie Sanders for 'Believing Child Molesters Deserve Right to Vote'
Liberal pop singer attacks socialist 2020 hopeful over felon voting rights comments
Normally-liberal pop star Cher has blasted Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) over his recent comments that violent convicted felons, including terrorists and rapists, should still be allowed to vote in elections from prison.
Socialist 2020 hopeful Sanders made the remarks during a Monday CNN town hall event, in which he stated that every American over the age of 18 should have voting rights, even if they are on death row for committing horrific crimes.
72-year-old singer Cher, who is a vocal Trump critic and regularly promotes left-wing agendas to her millions of Twitter followers, took issue with Sanders' statements and blasted his comments in a Tuesday tweet.
“Does Bernie Sanders Really Believe [People] In Prison Who Are Murderers, Rapists, Child Molesters, BOSTON [Marathon] BOMBERS …STILL DESERVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE,” Cher said in the April 23 tweet which was later deleted without explanation.
Shortly after, Cher followed up her comments in a second tweet, that was also later deleted, about how using Twitter was “not worth” it right now, saying she is hated by all sides.
“This site is not worth it at The Moment. I’m Hated On [President Donald] Trump side,’GOOD’ & Misunderstood By What I Thought Was My Side. Do I Screw Up Sometimes, Yeah. Throw The First Stone,” the “Believe” singer wrote.
The “I Got You Babe” singer later reversed course following criticism and said she reacted too soon, blaming her comments on a “knee jerk reaction.”
“You’re right & I Know Those Stats, but When Bernie [Sanders] Said Boston Bombers, Murderers, Terrible [People] Should vote, I Had Knee Jerk Reaction & 4got times I Cried when Innocent [people] were freed after 25yrs.Most [people] of color. It Shames Me 2 see (Again) How Angst, Hubris & no sleep=Disaster,” Cher tweeted to her followers.

The outburst from Cher comes after Senator Sanders admitted during a Monday town hall on CNN that he is pushing for voting rights for all Americans over 18.
Following a question from an audience member, Sanders said he supports “enfranchising people like the Boston Marathon bomber, a convicted terrorist and murderer” and those who have committed “sexual assault.”
“As it happens in my own state of Vermont, from the very first days of our state’s history, what our constitution says is that everybody can vote. That is true,” Sanders explained.
"So people in jail can vote.
“Now here’s my view: If somebody commits a serious crime — sexual assault, murder — they’re going to be punished.”
“I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy, yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away … you’re running down a slippery slope,” he added.
“I believe that people commit crimes, they pay the price, but when they get out of jail they certainly should have the right to vote.
"But I do believe that even if they are in jail paying their price to society, that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy.”
