An elderly New Jersey man was reportedly assaulted in a supermarket Monday afternoon for wearing a MAGA hat, according to Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
The 81-year-old Franklin Township man suffered minor injuries, the statement said.
The shocking incident is now under active investigation.
The man was attacked at 3:24 p.m. on Monday at a supermarket on Elizabeth Avenue.

A representative of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said they are “not releasing any additional information at this time due to it being an ongoing and active investigation," according to The Daily Caller.
Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Franklin Township Chief of Police Richard Grammar asked public assistance in giving any information regarding the incident.

Ian Furgeson entered thee Xhale City store in Tucker on Friday to purchase some items when he was faced with a barrage of abuse from the retail employee who demanded he leaves because of his MAGA hat.
As the liberal rant took more momentum, Furgeson took out his phone to capture the bizarre incident.
"I have just been asked to leave the store. He greeted me, that was nice. I did find the item that I wanted, and the next thing he said was he'd like me to leave," Furgeson explained.
The news comes a month after "MAGA Teen" Nicholas Sandmann was confronted by native activist Nathan Philips for wearing a MAGA hat which caused a worldwide media stir.
Sandmann's family are making moves toward suing the liberal media behind the smear campaign against the 16-year-old Covington Catholic School student and his classmates.
