Democratic says Trump's disregard for agency's threat assessments puts country at risk

Chuck Schumer has called on the US Central Intelligence Agency chiefs to “stage an intervention” with Donald Trump hours after the President branded them “naive” and “wrong” following their annual ‘threat assessment.’

The Democratic Senate minority leader told the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats that Trump's repeated disregard for the agency's threat assessments is putting the country 'at risk.'

Schumer called on Coats, CIA  Director Gina Haspel, and FBI Director Christopher Wray, to set up a meeting with Trump to give him a "reality check."

“You cannot allow the President’s ill-advised and unwarranted comments today to stand,” Schumer wrote.

“He is putting you and your colleagues in an untenable position and hurting the national interest in the process. You must find a way to make that clear to him.”

Trump labeled the US intelligence agencies as “naive” and “wrong” following their annual ‘threat assessment’ which contradicted his stance by downplaying Tehran’s nuclear threat.

The President rejected the agency's assessments of the threat posed by North Korea which contradicted his judgments during congressional testimony.

The Senate committee was told by leaders of the US intelligence community that the North Korea's nuclear threat remained valid and that Iran was not in the stages of developing a nuclear bomb.

Former CIA Director John Brennan said Trump's refusal to accept assessment shows intellectual bankruptcy

“The Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong!” Trump tweeted.

“Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!”

Former CIA Director and public critic of Trump John Brennan also jumped on the bandwagon with the following Tweet:

Your refusal to accept the unanimous assessment of U.S. Intelligence on Iran, No. Korea, ISIS, Russia, & so much more shows the extent of your intellectual bankruptcy.

All Americans, especially members of Congress, need to understand the danger you pose to our national security.

Last year, Trump removed Brennan's' security clearance for "lying and “erratic conduct.”
