White House Press Secretary: GOD 'Wanted Donald Trump to Become President'
Sarah Sanders spoke on the subject of faith and how it affects decisions
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told a Christian Broadcasting Network that God "wanted Donald Trump to become President."
Speaking on the subject of faith and how it affects decisions like abortion at the federal level, Sanders said:
"I think God calls all of us to fill different roles at different times and I think that He wanted Donald Trump to become president," Sanders told the Christian Broadcasting Network.
"That's why he's there, and I think he has done a tremendous job in supporting a lot of the things that people of faith really care about.”
Addressing the recent controversy surrounding the low amount of press briefings in the first two years of the Trump administration, Sanders questioned if they were the best way to get information out.
The press secretary suggested that press briefings had turned into a spectacle in which reporters are trying to "find this gotcha moment."
She added that Trump is the most conservative president in U.S. history.
“[Trump is the] most conservative president that we've ever had," Sanders said.
"I think that will be one of the greatest legacies that the president has after his eight years in office is how he has completely remade the judiciary and started to stop this activist court that we've started to see over the last eight years," Sanders said.
"There's a reason evangelicals are sticking with the President, and that's because he's delivered on all the things he said he would do."
Sanders was asked about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's position on the proposed border wall; she slammed Ms. Pelosi's suggestion such a barrier was immoral.
"Honestly, it's very hard at this point to even take a lecture from Democrats on what is moral and what isn't," she said.
It's "ridiculous charge" and saying Ms. Pelosi "may even regret making that comment."
"Protecting the people of your country... is the fundamental duty of being president of the United States," Ms. Sanders said.
Amid the indictment of Trump ally Roger Stone, Sanders asked why FBI would also be raiding the homes of Hillary Clinton, James Clapper and James Comey.
Trump-confidant Roger Stones home was raided on Friday by FBI agents after was indicted by a grand jury on charges including allegedly making false statements to Congress, obstructing a government investigation, and tampering with a witness.
