The 15 member commission investigating a Florida high school shooting has advised that teachers should be permitted to carry firearms on school campuses, according to reports.

According to the 446-page report, which was unanimously approved, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission suggested that teachers should be empowered to volunteer to undergo training to carry guns at school, according to the Associated Press.

In the report, it details what the committee believes happened leading up to and during the mass shooting on Feb. 14, 2018, when 17 people were killed and 17 wounded by a lone gunman.

Republican Gov. Rick Scott and his GOP successor, Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis, will be responsible for approving the commission's proposal allowing teachers to carry firearms.

Last year, President Donald Trump suggested the idea of arming teachers and school staff as a preventative measure against future High School shootings, as he met survivors who were demanding solutions.

Although Trump's proposal is still in discussions stages, the President noted that such a practice was successful on airplanes.

Undercover Federal Air Marshals carry weapons on many US flights to prevent possible highjacking or attacks on passengers.

Trump estimates that 20 percent of teachers and staff armed with firearms could "thwart" potential attacks before they happen.
