China Set To make Historic Landing on 'Dark Side' of the Moon

The Chang'e-4 Chinese lunar probe has entered a planned orbit as it prepares to make it's high -anticipated landing on the dark side of the moon.

The Chinese ground control will now decide the “proper time” for the Chinese lunar exploration mission to land on the far side of the moon, according to to the space agency.

As the probes lands, it will be assisted by a communications relay satellite, the Queqiao, which was deployed back in May.

“The probe has entered an elliptical lunar orbit, with the perilune [closest point] at about 15 km and the apolune [maximum distance] at about 100 km,” the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced Sunday.

China will enter the history books if the landing is successful, allowing them to proceed to explore a previously unexplored region of the moon to learn more about its history.

China recently announced they will launch an artificial moon into space in an attempt to illuminate one of the country's largest cities by the year 2020.

According to Officials in Chengdu, a city with a population of 14 million people in China's southwestern province of Sichuan, they place a satellite in orbit by 2020 proficient enough to reflect sunlight onto the city streets and replacing street lights.

The fake moon will apply a reflective coating which will direct light to brighten an area on earth of up to 50 square miles; Wu Chunfeng claims - chairman of the city’s Aerospace Science and Technology Microelectronics System Research Institute.
