Texas Man Who Raped Newborn Baby Daughter, Jailed for 244 Years
Prosecutors says pedophile made baby's 'life a living hell' after meth-induced rape
A Texas man, who raped his 38-day-old baby daughter during a meth-induced "haze," has been jailed for 244 years after being found guilty of the horrific crimes.
27-year-old Patricio Medina boasted to a fellow inmate that he had sexually assaulted his newborn daughter in 2014, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald.
During a two-day trial that began on Tuesday, the inmate testified regarding Medina's sick prison confession.
Medina was found guilty on multiple counts and issued three 80 year sentences by the presiding judge on Thursday.
He was convicted on two counts of endangering a child, two counts of injury to a child, and one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child younger than six.
According to the Daily Mail, police were called on March 14, 2014, to a home on Delano Avenue in Waco after getting a report of physical abuse on a one-month-old baby.
When they arrived, Medina admitted to police he had been using methamphetamine two days earlier.
Medina, who is the child's father, told police he squeezed the girl's ribs causing them to break, shook her and when he got upset with the girl's mother, he crushed the child's body against his to cause injuries.
In addition to the injury to a child charges, a grand jury reindicted Medina on aggravated sexual assault of a child in March this year.
According to the McLennan County District Attorney's office, the jury sentenced Medina to 80 years in prison and fined him $10,000.
Medina must serve the full 80 years on the first charge before he is eligible for parole.
The child's mother, Lisa Montoya, was also charged with abandoning/endangering a child.
The affidavit states she put the child in imminent danger of death, bodily injury or physical or mental impairment by not reporting the abuse to the authorities.
Medina, who was first indicted in November 2015, has been held in the McLennan County Jail since April 2017 in lieu of $225,000 bond.
An unrelated family adopted the victim and her two siblings, prosecutor Gabrielle Massey said. The girl is now four and is doing well, she said.
‘The jury's verdict ensures that this toddler and all children will be safe from this predator for the next 80 years,’ Assistant District Attorney Gabrielle Massey said in a prepared statement.
‘Thanks to the work of CPS and Waco PD Crimes Against Children, the horrific first five weeks of this child's life will not prevent her from having a safe and happy future’.
Prosecutors Gabrielle Massey and Jennifer Jenkins had asked jury members for the life sentence on Thursday.
‘My question is what has he done to deserve anything less than life?, Massey asked jurors during sentencing Thursday.
‘What more horrific of a crime could there be for a man who is supposed to love and protect the life he brought into this world, and instead, he shatters her body in sick sexual fulfillment'.
During the abuse, the state said Medina broke his daughter’s ribs and legs and caused bruising all over the baby.
The fractures in the baby’s body were reported to be in various stages of healing, suggesting the abuse had continued for weeks.
'All that baby needed was love and safety. The man that was supposed to give that to her instead taught her the true horrors of the world,' Massey said. 'Thank God he did not kill her tiny body, but he killed her soul'.
Massey said the young victim had endured 'a living hell' in her short life at the hands of Medina.
