A former high-ranking official with the FBI has confirmed that the Bureau's investigation into the allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh by Christine Blasey Ford "can easily be done in a week."

Lauren C. Anderson, an ex-top official with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has responded to claims that the one-week limit set to investigate Dr. Ford's claims is not long enough.

Ford's legal team has also called for the time limit to be dropped altogether, in another clear attempt to disrupt Judge Kavanaugh's nomination for the Supreme Court.

An agreement reached by the Senate Judiciary Committee to delay the full Senate vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation, allows the FBI to conduct a week-long probe into Dr. Ford’s accusations of sexual misconduct against President Trump's nominee.

Speaking to the New York Times, former FBI official Anderson has confirmed that the investigation can "easily" be completed within the allotted timeframe.

In a report published on Friday by The Times, the newspaper asked Anderson; “Can the FBI finish investigating in a week?”:

It’s not impossible. The F.B.I. has plenty of experience mounting large investigations and getting results quickly. In the days and weeks after terrorism attacks or mass shootings, the F.B.I. has completed hundreds of interviews and processed mountains of evidence, like video footage or the contents of computers and phones.

In this case, the F.B.I. is likely to make the investigation a top priority, instructing agents across the country to conduct interviews. The F.B.I. investigation can easily be done in a week,” said Lauren C. Anderson, a former top F.B.I. official.

On Friday, President Trump authorized the FBI to conduct an investigation into the allegations made by Dr. Ford against Brett Kavanaugh.

One of Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyers, Debra Katz, responded on Friday to the investigation’s stated one-week length.

“No artificial limits as to time or scope should be imposed on this investigation,” she said.

Prior to releasing the president’s statement, Kavanaugh, through White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah, communicated his readiness to cooperate with the investigation.

“Throughout this process, I’ve been interviewed by the FBI, I’ve done a number of ‘background’ calls directly with the Senate, and yesterday, I answered questions under oath about every topic the Senators and their counsel asked me,” the Court pick said.

“I’ve done everything they have requested and will continue to cooperate.”
