The Kazakhstan government has begun its chemically castrating pedophiles as authorities confirm they have 2,000 injections lined up to carry out on child sex offenders.

The former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan is now ready to begin to the chemical castration of convicted pedophiles

The first pedophile up for the injection will be an unnamed child sex attacker in the Turkestan region and will be supervised by the country's health ministry, according to officials.

The sex offender was found guilty of a child sex attack in April 2016, and will now face forcible castration.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev has confirmed £20,500 for some 2,000 injections on pedophiles in the country.

Deputy health minister Lyazat Aktayeva said: 'At the moment there has been one request for chemical castration in accordance with a court ruling.'

The new law was introduced in Kazakhstan at the beginning of 2018.

'Funds have been allocated for more than 2,000 injections,' revealed Aktayeva.

According to senator Byrganym Aitimova, the castration would be 'temporary', which will involve a 'one-off injection' based on how necessary it is to prevent the pedophile from reoffending.

Child sex crimes also carry hefty prison sentences in Kazakhstan, some as much as 20 years.

Unlike surgical castration, chemical castration does not involve removing the genitals and is also considered to be reversible in most cases.

Some critics argue that chemical castration does not prevent future attacks.

The procedure will be carried out in regional psychoneurological clinics in Kazakhstan.

The chemical used for the castration is called Cyproterone, a steroidal anti-androgen developed for fighting cancer.

The bold move was in response to the countries pedophile problem, with child rapes doubling to around 1,000 a year in the period between 2010 and 2014.

Indonesian president Joko Widodo authorized chemical castration for convicted child sex offenders following the brutal gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl.
