Pelosi Warns of Republicans Winning House in Midterms: ‘I Fear for Our Democracy’
'We can’t let that happen'
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said that she feared for America's "democracy" if Republicans win the majority in the House of Representatives in November’s midterm elections.
During an interview with Time Magazine’s Molly Ball, Pelosi was asked:
“You mentioned the midterm elections in 2018 that returned you to the speakership.
“We got a midterm election this year. Most people are saying it doesn’t look very good for your party.
"How do you see the midterms going, and what do you see as the potential consequences if the Democrats lose Congress?”
Pelosi responded: “I don’t have any intention of the Democrats losing the Congress in November.”
“It is absolutely essential for our democracy that we win.”
“I fear for our democracy if the Republicans were ever to get the gavel. We can’t let that happen.
"Democracy is on the ballot in November.”
“Everybody said redistricting was going to be horrible for the Democrats,” she added.
“Remember that? Not so. Not so."
"If anything, we’ll pick up seats rather than lose 10 to 15, which conventional wisdom said that we would,” she said.
“There’s nothing conventional anymore, and it certainly ain’t wisdom.”
As Neon Nettle reported earlier this month:
The soaring cost of gas across America is going to all but guarantee a Democratic Party bloodbath in this year’s midterm elections, according to Republicans.
Joe Biden and congressional Democrats are facing an uphill battle ahead of the midterms after championing green energy policies while calling to shift away from domestic oil drilling.
Gas prices are continuing to climb from near-record highs following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Biden announced during his State of the Union address last week, that the U.S. is releasing 30 million barrels from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve to protect consumers from the rising prices during the Russia-Ukraine war.
