Ukraine's Armed Forces says its Navy has "destroyed" a Russian naval warship.

The Ukrainian Navy said the Russian vessel was destroyed on Thursday morning in the port of Berdyansk on the Black Sea southwest of Mariupol.

"A large paratroop ship ‘Orsk’ of the black sea fleet of occupiers was destroyed in the occupied Russian port Berdyansk," the Ukraine Navy announced on Facebook.

"Glory to Ukraine!"

The Ukraine Armed Forces Twitter account posted a video of a burning vessel with a caption: 

"The occupiers are burning well."

The video appears to show a burning ship exploding.

While Russia has superior forces in Ukraine, the defenders have put up a surprisingly strong resistance.

On Thursday morning, the Armed Forces of Ukraine published a list of Russia's total combat losses from Feb. 24 to March 23.

The list claims Russia's death toll so far amounts to about 15,800 people.

The Armed Forces also lists military hardware losses as:

  • 530 tanks
  • 1,597 armored combat vehicles
  • 280 artillery systems
  • 47 anti-aircraft weapons
