Journalist Exposes Media's Collusion to Protect Hunter Biden
Glenn Greenwald efforts by government officials and media outlets to lie to public
A top journalist has exposed the widespread media collusion that shielded Hunter Biden from scandal in an effort to protect Democrat Joe Biden.
Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald has detailed the efforts by government officials, media outlets, Big Tech, and so-called "fact-checkers" to lie to the American public about reports on Hunter's notorious "Laptop from Hell."
In a Twitter thread, Greenwald lays into corporate media, detailing how government officials and media outlets had effectively colluded to protect Joe Biden’s embattled son, Hunter — before, during, and after the 2020 presidential election.
Greenwald ultimately left The Intercept, the outlet he co-founded, when he was asked to sanitize an article he was writing about then-candidate Joe Biden.
The story was about Biden, his son Hunter, and their past dealings with both China and Ukraine.
He has now exposed multiple media outlets that had been drawn into the coordinated effort to protect the Bidens.
His comments come in the wake of a report from The New York Times — which, in addition to confirming that Hunter Biden remains under a federal investigation, let slip that the emails found on the laptop he reportedly abandoned at a Delaware repair shop were, in fact, authentic.
People familiar with the investigation said prosecutors had examined emails between Mr. Biden, Mr. Archer and others about Burisma and other foreign business activity.
Those emails were obtained by The New York Times from a cache of files that appears to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. Biden in a Delaware repair shop.
The email and others in the cache were authenticated by people familiar with them and with the investigation.
The New York Post’s Miranda Devine, author of “The Laptop From Hell,” noted that none of the senior ex-intelligence officials — who swore that reports about Hunter Biden were nothing more than “Russian disinformation” — were willing to walk back their statements.
“Spies who lie: The @nypost contacted the senior ex-intelligence officials who signed the shameful 2020 letter declaring Hunter Biden’s laptop and its emails we ran were Russian disinformation,” she tweeted.
"Not one apologized. Most refused to comment.
"A few like James Clapper doubled down."

"It’s unfortunate that the @NYPost is one of the few large US outlets willing to hold accountable the cretins in the US security state for the lies they told about the Biden emails being ‘Russian disinformation’ – designed to manipulate the 2020 election – but that’s our reality,” Greenwald responded.

"These ‘former intelligence officials’ – trained career disinformation agents, who were supposed to manipulate other countries’ politics, not the US’s – have the same contempt for the public as the media outlets they command: refuse to admit their lies,” Greenwald continued.
He went on to share a link to a podcast that he said outlined the situation in greater detail — and effectively indicted his former outlet, The Intercept, for its role in furthering the narrative.
Here's a great breakdown from @vanguard_pod -- one of the best and most honest left-wing shows on the internet -- about the role played by @theintercept's editors in spreading the CIA's "Russian disinformation" line, and how @TheYoungTurks supported them:https://t.co/TzsEZQ6qtn— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) March 19, 2022
But in addition to the ex-intelligence officials not apologizing or walking back their assertions, Greenwald noted that the media outlets that had run with the “Russian disinformation” narrative were not in a hurry to concede their own involvement in spreading “the CIA lie.”
"And, just by the way, it’s been 48 hours since the outlet they regard as ‘The Paper of Record’ stated they authenticated the emails in the Hunter Biden archive about Joe’s activities,” he said.
"Not a single media outlet that spread the CIA lie has acknowledged it or retracted their lies."
"At the time CIA got huge numbers of corporate outlets to spread its lie that the Biden laptop was ‘Russian disinformation,’ actual reporters at the WPost warned Biden constantly maligns incriminating reports as ‘Russian disinformation’ with no evidence,” Greenwald continued.
He goes on to note that one of the few reporters at the NYT who had “really explored how Biden’s actions in Ukraine benefitted Burisma as it paid Hunter $50k/month” was a woman named Iuliia Mendel — who later became press secretary to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
One interesting historical note: The co-author of the first NYT article, from 2019, that really explored how Biden's actions in Ukraine benefitted Burisma as it paid Hunter $50k/month was @IuliiaMendel, who 1 month later became Zelensky's Press Secretary.https://t.co/jRZrJzgueg— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) March 19, 2022
Greenwald wrapped up his thread by pointing out Ukraine’s efforts to undermine President Donald Trump during the 2016 election, followed by a video of Congressman Adam Schiff with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, both of whom appeared eager to parrot the narrative.
"Here’s the worst pathological liar in the US Congress bar none, @AdamSchiff, repeating, in Oct 2020, the CIA lie to Wolf that the emails from the Biden laptop were ‘Russian disinformation’ (Blitzer and CNN also affirmed this lie on their own of course),” Greenwald tweeted.
