Democrat Joe Biden had another one of his embarrassing diplomatic moments during a meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö.

Niinistö seemed to throw Biden into serious shade after responding to one of the president’s questions.

Niinistö seemed to take a jab at American military aggressions, with Biden’s reaction seeming more than awkward.

What was Biden’s response?

He simply laughed in the face of the implied insult.

Niinistö met with Biden at the White House to discuss Finland’s precarious situation, given neighboring Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

WATCH:

The White House said in a statement that the two leaders “committed to start a process that would strengthen U.S.-Finnish security cooperation” and discussed NATO’s open-door policy allowing any nation willing to agree to the alliance’s values to join.

Biden also noted that when he served in the Obama administration, the former president used to quip that “we’d be alright if we left everything to the Nordic countries.”

Niinistö cheekily noted:

“Well, we usually don’t start wars."

Although we don’t know if the Finnish leader meant to slight his host, Biden’s laughter in response suggested that he had no idea what to say.

Biden is now laughing awkwardly as the leader of a nation that could be facing an existential crisis without America’s aid

This is not the first time Biden has embarrassed his country while meeting with world leaders.

During Biden’s trip to the U.K, he said “I don’t want to go home” after spending five minutes in the country’s first presidential trip overseas, an enthusiasm for Europe that seems to have faded by his next visit to the realm for a climate conference in Scotland where he was caught napping while checking his watch as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave closing remarks.

When Johnson visited the states, Biden told him some incoherent rambling story about his love of commuter trains, a story he’s often repeated that is has been thoroughly debunked.

Then when it came to Biden’s meeting with President Vladimir Putin, he never looked worse.

Biden even brought flashcards with him to the high-stakes summit.

Nothing says “I’m not afraid of you” like a leader showing up to a meeting armed with handy notecards, so he doesn’t forget his talking points.

To put the icing on the cake, Biden is now laughing awkwardly as the leader of a nation that could be facing an existential crisis without America’s aid.
