Ilhan Omar Attacks Democrats Who Don't Support 'Defund the Police'
Radical lawmaker deals toxic death blow to her party as midterms loom

Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is continuing her calls to "defund the police," despite the impact the politically-toxic rhetoric has on her party as the midterm elections loom.
Speaking during an appearance on Tuesday’s broadcast of Peacock TV channel The Choice’s “Mehdi Hasan Show,” Omar attacked other Democrats who refuse to promote the anti-police narrative.
Omar was reacting to Democratic critics of the Defund the Police movement.
Prominent Democrats, like Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) and New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D), have spoken out against the movement in an effort to distance themselves from anti-cop policies.
Omar blasted those against the movement by stating that she doesn’t know what their “point is in saying that you represent the most vulnerable in our communities.
"Because if you care about those who are vulnerable, then you have to do everything that you can to keep them safe,” Omar claimed.

Host Mehdi Hasan asked:
“And how do you feel when you see even self-proclaimed progressives in your party like New York Congressman Ritchie Torres saying that Defund the Police is ‘dead’ in New York City and where many Democrats, including the new mayor, a former police captain, are loudly distancing themselves from the defund movement?”

Omar responded, “When you see the rise in mental health crises, when you’re seeing domestic violence increase because of COVID and other measures, when you see so many people with addiction problems, and you see the level of homelessness we have in our communities, and you still say more resources shouldn’t be allocated to that, to keep our communities safe and healthy, I really don’t know what your point is in saying that you represent the most vulnerable in our communities.
"Because if you care about those who are vulnerable, then you have to do everything that you can to keep them safe.”

Omar has been one of the leading voices in Congress calling for police forces to be defunded and abolished.
During the summer of 2020, amid the height of Black Lives Matter-led rioting, Omar described police as a "cancer" that "we have to amputate."
As Neon Nettle reported at the time, the controversial Minnesota congresswoman doubled down on her commitment to "completely dismantle" the Minneapolis Police Department.
Omar described the police force as “rotten to the root” after calling for the department to be defunded.
“Not only do we need to disinvest, but we need to completely dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department,” Omar told the cheering crowd during a "Defund the Police" rally.
