Biden’s DHS Chief Admits Border Crisis ‘Worse Now’ than It’s Ever Been
Leaked audio of Alejandro Mayorkas admitting crisis emerges

Democrat Joe Biden's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been caught admitting in a leaked audio file that the border crisis is perhaps "worse now" than it's ever been.
The recording was obtained by Townhall and shows the DHS chief admitting privately what the Biden administration refuses to acknowledge in public.
"The job has not gotten any easier over the last few months and it was very, very difficult throughout 2021,” Mayorkas said, according to the audio file.
"I know apprehending families and kids is not what you signed up to do.
"And now we got a composition that is changing even more with Cubans, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, and the like, it just gets more difficult,” Mayorkas said.
"I know the policies of this administration are not particularly popular with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, but that’s the reality and let’s see what we can do within that framework.”

"The numbers are not where they need to be,” Mayorkas confesses.
"I agree with that.
"Look, it’s worse now than it, frankly, has been in at least 20 years, if not ever."

We need real policies that support our agents and secure our border. And yet Democrats have chosen to slash the CBP budget by almost $1 billion this year. pic.twitter.com/kgCy0eX0sS
U.S. officials at DHS are preparing for a “significantly larger” number of illegal immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border this Spring, with projections running as high as 9,000 arrests per day.
"The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden grappled with a record-breaking 1.7 million border arrests last fiscal year, which ended on Sept. 30,” Reuters reported.
"In July 2021 – the peak of last year’s rise – daily migrant arrests averaged about 6,500, according to government statistics.
"The nearly unprecedented number of arrests, which included many repeat crossers, caused backups of unaccompanied children in crowded border patrol stations…”
The report noted that Border Patrol agents have become fed up with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over how the administration is handling the crisis on the southern border.
The news comes shortly after Biden’s administration finally released the December numbers for illegal border crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border, which showed a dramatic uptick compared to previous years.
“The number of unique individuals encountered in December 2021 was 135,040, a 5 percent increase in the number of unique individuals encountered the prior month,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement.
“In total, there were 178,840 encounters along the Southwest land border in December, a 2 percent increase compared to November.”

The figure of 178,840 illegal border crossings for December 2021 was higher than the December totals from 2020, 2019, and 2018 combined when there was a total of 175,353 illegal border crossings.

Mark Morgan, former acting CBP commissioner and Heritage visiting fellow, responded to the news in a statement, saying: “More than a year ago, even as Joe Biden was preparing to roll back President Donald Trump’s effective border security policies, he claimed he did not want to end up with ‘two million people on our border.’
"After a year on the job, it’s undeniable that Biden has failed even by his own basic measure.”
"In 12 months, CBP recorded more than two million encounters along the southwest border, a shocking and historic number,” Morgan added.
"But that number does not include an estimated 600,000 or more ‘got-aways,’ individuals who cross the border illegally but which Border Patrol is unable to detain.
"And then there are the ‘turn-backs,’ those who make an effort to cross the border but eventually give up and return to their country of origin.
"Under Biden, that number was around 400,000.
"Under Joe Biden, more than three million people have tried to violate America’s sovereignty and illegally enter our country.
"This is not only the worst border crisis in American history—it’s the worst 12 months for any president when it comes to border security.”
