China has warned the United States that Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s security demands must be “taken seriously” amid growing tensions over Ukraine.

Foreign minister Wang Yi demanded that Secretary of State Antony Blinken abandon his “Cold War mentality” and engage in negotiations.

Blinken rejected most of Putin’s demands around Ukraine.

Wang added that "regional security cannot be guaranteed by strengthening or even expanding military blocs."

Though the contents of Blinken’s letter to Putin are not known, he said it contains "serious" offers to de-escalate tensions.

Some are said to include controls on nuclear arms and limits on military exercises, the New York Times reported.

Wang added that “regional security cannot be guaranteed by strengthening or even expanding military blocs.”

He also urged the U.S. to “stop interfering” in the Winter Olympics, which are due to take place next month.

But Washington’s brief avoided talking about the Olympics or Taiwan and focused on Ukraine.

The statement read:

“Secretary Blinken underscored the global security and economic risks posed by further Russian aggression against Ukraine and conveyed that de-escalation and diplomacy are the responsible way forward."

There are now strong fears of a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine amid thousands of Russian troops gathering at the border.

There are now strong fears of a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine amid thousands of Russian troops gathering at the border.

Earlier this week, General Michael Flynn warned that the U.S. is now extremely close to “an armed conflict with Russia.”

Flynn wrote:

“The rhetoric about the Ukraine conflict is out of control.

"President Joe Biden threatens that Russia would 'pay a heavy price' for any incursion into Ukraine.”

“Secretary of State Antony Blinken warns of 'massive consequences' for Russia.

"Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto, 'We don’t rule out first-use nuclear action.'

“First-use nuclear action rhetoric is not only extremely dangerous, but these types of nonsensical remarks also threaten the stability of the entire world.”

Meanwhile, the Biden administration said it had no plan for evacuating U.S. citizens from Ukraine.

The Biden admin has reportedly warned Americans still stranded in the Eastern European nation that they should “plan accordingly” for an invasion.

According to Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin, the State Department sent a warning to Americans in Ukraine that “the U.S. government will not be in a position” to help them evacuate.
