New York on Track to Record Second-Highest Level of Gun Sales Ever
'The increase in new shooters has been astronomical'

New York is poised to record its second-highest level of annual gun sales ever, according to reports.
According to a report from Field & Stream:
“FBI pre-sale background checks indicate that New Yorkers are on pace to purchase their second greatest number of firearms since the NICS (National Instant Criminal Background System) check program went into effect.”

The Hudson Valley Times Union observed checks for gun sales from January 1, 2021, through the end of November and noted:
“There have been 425,778 firearm background checks in New York in the first 11 months of 2021, far surpassing pre-pandemic gun-buying levels in 2019, when the FBI reported 355,374 total firearm background checks in the state.”

Mid-Hudson Sporting’s Steve Meyen said of the surge:
“The increase in new shooters has been astronomical.”

The president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Joe Bartozzi, also noted the surge in gun sales:
“This year has already been shaping up to be the second strongest year for firearm sales on record, second only to 2020’s record-breaking number of 21 million background checks for a firearm sale.”
As Neon Nettle reported earlier this year:
On Black Friday alone, the FBI conducted 187,585 National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) checks on gun sales, according to reports.
According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), Black Friday 2021 NICS checks surpassed those of 2020, which was 186,645.
The NSSF observed the FBI performed a total of 687,788 NICS checks during the entire week, which included black Friday.
There were also similar data for September 2021, with the second-most NICS checks of any September in history.
In September, there were 2,626,389 NICS checks, second only to the 2,892,115 conducted in September 2020.
