Jussie Smollett is facing a $130,000 lawsuit from the City of Chicago for wasting police time after he was convicted of staging a hoax hate crime.

Smollett claimed he was victimized in a racist, homophobic attack in 2019 before investigators determined the whole thing was a hoax.

The Chicago Police Department concluded, after two dozen cops spent weeks investigating the bogus story, that Smollett's story was fake.

The city racked up a $130,106.15 overtime tab and confirmed it was going ahead with the lawsuit to reclaim the cash.

The chances of a win or settlement are almost guaranteed in the wake of the star's conviction.

"The City filed a civil lawsuit against Jussie Smollett to recover costs incurred by the Chicago Police Department investigating what the City believed to be Smollett's false police reports that he was a victim of a hate crime," the statement said.

"While using a different standard of proof, the jury's finding of guilt convicting Jussie Smollett of criminal charges stemming from the incident confirms that the City was correct in bringing its civil lawsuit."

Nigerian brothers paying Abimbola 'Abel' Osundairo and Olabinjo 'Ola' Osundairo said they were paid by Smollett to stage the attack.

But they later sued Smollett's attorneys after the initial set of charges were dropped, after claims the case damaged their careers.

As the Daily Mail reported:

A juror who tried the Jussie Smollett trial said she and the other 11 members of the panel were immediately convinced of his guilt - and that the actor's poor testimony sealed his fate.

The jury of six men and six women took nine hours to deliberate, the female anonymous juror said: 'it was not evenly split, but there were some doubters.'

But, the juror said, they didn't have any major disagreements. Rather, they wanted to be sure that they carefully reviewed the spate of evidence presented during the one-week trial.

Smollett also boasted that he was "100% confident" that all five of his felony convictions would be overturned by the court.

As Neon Nettle reported:

Smollett was found guilty by a jury in Chicago of staging a fake racist, anti-gay hate crime against himself to get free media attention and advance his own career.

Speaking after the verdict, while victorious, Special Prosecutor Dan Webb revealed that he was disgusted with Smollett for repeatedly lying to the court while under oath.

Webb revealed he may now pursue further charges of perjury against Smollett for getting "up in front of [the jury] and [telling] lies for hours and hours and hours."

“Defendants have a right to defend themselves, but defendants do not have the right to go in front of a jury and lie under oath,” the prosecuting attorney warned.

However, Smollett, now a convicted felon, reportedly boasting that an appeals court will overturn five felony convictions stemming from the hoax he staged on himself back in 2019.
