Senior Taliban Commander Killed in Attack at Afghan Hospital
Terrorist group hit with a series of bloody assaults
A Taliban military commander has been killed after responding to an Islamic State suicide bomb and gun attack on a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The Taliban has faced a recent hit with a series of bloody assaults claimed by rivals, the Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K).
During the attack on Kabul’s main military hospital, 19 were killed, according to a health ministry official.
A member of the hardline Haqqani network and an officer in the Badri Corps special forces, Hamdullah Mokhlis, was the most senior figure to have been killed since the Taliban took control of the country.
“When he got the information that Sardar Daud Khan Hospital was under attack, Maulvi Hamdullah (Mokhlis), the commander of the Kabul corps, immediately rushed to the scene,” the Taliban media official said.
“We tried to stop him, but he laughed. Later we found out that he was martyred in the face-to-face fight at the hospital,” he added.
The attack happened when a suicide bomber detonated explosives near the facility’s entrance before gunmen broke into the hospital grounds.
The Taliban deployed their special forces to the roof of the building in a helicopter, which is property of Afghanistan’s former US-backed government.
IS-K said in a statement:
"Five Islamic State group fighters carried out simultaneous coordinated attacks” on the site."

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid attempted to downplay the death toll and said the attack was put down within 15 minutes thanks to the rapid intervention.
Earleir this year, the Taliban executed former ISIS-K leader Abu Omar Khorasani.
Khorasani was the leader of the ISIS splinter cell in Afghanistan, which was behind the recent bombing in Kabul that killed 180 people, including 13 American troops last month.
Khorasani was freed with thousands of other prisoners as chaos engulfed the country following the Taliban takeover.
The Taliban confirmed the ISIS leader was shot dead, according to Lebanese TV station al-Mayadeen.
