Starving Afghan Families Forced Sell Children to Old Pedophiles for Just $1000
The increasing supply of child brides is now forcing prices down
Desperate Afghan families are now resorting to selling their young daughters to old men in order to survive.
The people of Afghanistan are now facing massive hardship due to a lack of humanitarian aid since the Taliban seized power after Joe Biden's botched withdrawal of U.S troops.
A recent sale of a nine-year-old girl named Parwana Malik to a 55-year-old “husband” for just $2000 was reported by CNN on Monday.
Other girls can be sold for as little as $1000 each.
The increasing supply of child brides is now forcing prices down.
The sale of child brides to bacha bazi, a notorious boy rape practice, has been endemic in Afghanistan for some time.
In 2013, the Afghan Parliament under the U.S.-backed regime voted against a proposed ban on child marriage, asserting it violated “Islamic principles.”
But over the past three months, child marriage for girls has skyrocketed as the Taliban seized power.
CNN reporter Anna Coren said families blamed their lack of access to food for making such harsh decisions.
Currently, much of the world has frozen humanitarian aid to Afghanistan to avoid funding the Taliban, leaving families in desperation.
Parwana Malik, the nine-year-old whose sale was reported by CNN, appeared scared and dragged her feet as her “husband” took her away.
“My father sold me because we don’t have bread, rice, or flour. He has sold me to an old man,” she told the outlet.
Father Abdul Malik insisted, “I have no other choice,” and urged the buyer to “please take care” of his daughter.
There were also several other families seeking elder husbands for their daughters.
One family had two daughters for sale at $1,000 each.
“I will kill myself,” the ten-year-old told CNN if her family followed through with the sale.
“This has been around forever,” reporter Anna Coren stated in the report but suggested that in light of the Taliban victory, “now it’s out in the open.”
“My husband said if we don’t give away our daughters, we will all die because we don’t have anything to eat,” the girls’ mother, Fahima, told AFP.
Just last month, Neon Nettle reported that an Afghan woman and her husband sold their two young daughters, one who was just 18 months old, into "marriage" because they desperately needed money to buy food.
“Fahima has wept many times since her husband sold their two young daughters into marriage to survive the drought gripping western Afghanistan."
“Oblivious to the deal, six-year-old Faristeh and 18-month-old Shokriya sit by her side in a mud-brick and tarpaulin shelter for displaced people."
According to AFP, Fahima’s eldest child “commanded a bride price of $3,350 and the toddler $2,800 — to be paid in installments over several years until the time comes to join their new families, their future husbands still minors themselves."
Neon Nettle reported earlier this year; the Taliban was “going door-to-door” and abducting girls as young as 12 years old to become “sex slaves” for jihadi fighters.
