Gold Star Dad Slams Biden’s Plan to Give $450k to Illegal Migrants
'Another slap in the face' from Biden
Gold Star father David Horton blasted Joe Biden over his recent plans to pay some migrant family members, allegedly separated at the border under Donald Trump, $450,000 each.
Last week, Neon Nettle reported the Biden administration was working on a plan to award $450k in taxpayer money to migrants separated at the border.
The scheme will see many illegal immigrant families receive almost $1 million if two members claim to have been separated from each other, which has enraged Republicans, gold star families, and families of 9/11 victims.
Most families who crossed the border illegally from Mexico included one parent and one child.
Critics say the biggest issue is that non-citizens stand to receive more money from the U.S. government than gold star families.
The U.S government pays families of fallen service members $100,000 in "death gratuity"; the payments are tax exempt.
Service member families are also allowed to collect a maximum of $400,000 in life insurance, but they have to pay into the insurance plan to receive its benefits.
Horton — whose son, Army Spc. Christopher Horton, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2011, said Biden's plan was "an insult" and disrespected military families.
"I think it's another — yet another insult ... against our military families and Gold Star families and veterans' families," Horton said.
"It's just another slap in the face," he added.
"It's completely disrespectful."
"To compare an illegal person who has broken our country's border laws ... they've broken the law coming in on our borders and to compare that with someone, a patriot like my son, who gave his all on the battlefield of Afghanistan, and to just say, 'Oh well, the value is more for someone who has broken our laws' ... and now to say, 'Oh, we owe you money — and it's more money than we would pay a patriot — I am outraged," Horton said.
"You just wonder, where is the outcry against some of these policies that are just there? Unbelievable to me," Horton added.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, highlighted the contrast between the payments and what is given to those who have lost loved ones who died during service.
"Biden wants to pay illegal immigrants $450,000 for their hardship while breaking our laws," Crenshaw, R-Texas, a Navy SEAL veteran, tweeted.
"For perspective, if a service member is killed in action, their next of kin get an insurance payment of $400,000. Let that sink in."
