Lemon: ‘Shady Real Estate’ Trump Is Not above the Law
'It used to be Republicans would say no man is above the law'

CNN anchor Don Lemon claimed Republicans used to stand up for law and order before President Donald Trump came along.
While discussing the House select committee investigating the January 6 riot voting to find Trump ally Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress, co-host Chris Cuomo said:
“The idea of privilege for Bannon, first of all, it hasn’t been asserted.”
He continued:
“But the bigger question, Don, you got nothing to hide. Why not come to the committee?
"Or at least if you want to show contempt for the committee, show up and plead the fifth.”

Lemon said:
“Because you want to – it used to be Republicans would say no man is above the law.
"No one is above the law.
"We should all be treated equally. Law and order until this fellow, this sort of shady real estate kind of person came along, and then changed all of that, the narrative for the Republican Party and showed that some people are above the law, and they’re actually are going to stand and are standing behind the right they believe for people to be above the law.
"And Steve Bannon is not. The former president is not, or should not be.
"But we haven’t really seen that Republicans stand by that whole law and order mantra or motto.”

Last week, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) warned that Trump associates failing to cooperate with the committee examining the January 6 riot would face prosecution.
Schiff said the committee "has engaged lawyers" to secure the testimony of the four Trump associates following subpoenas.
Schiff also said Republican lawmakers claiming Trump won the 2020 presidential election are “insurrectionists in suits and ties.”
"Frankly, in the days, after when the trauma for a lot of us became even greater, I was most angry with these insurrectionists in suits and ties."
"But we have engaged with lawyers that are representing them to try to secure their testimony," he continued.
"But also to make it very clear that those who don't cooperate with our committee are going to be the subject of criminal contempt."
