House of Representatives Staffer Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

A staffer working for the sergeant-at-arms of the U.S. House of Representatives has been charged with possessing child pornography, police say.

41-year-old Stefan Bieret of Burke, Virginia, was arrested and charged with ten felonies related to possessing child pornography, according to Fairfax County police.

Bieret is being held without bond and is expected back in court next month.

Following an investigation, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was informed of a potentially illicit image uploaded to a Dropbox account.

The matter was later reported to a task force on internet crimes against children.

The account owner was found to live in Fairfax County.

The investigation was late took over by country detectives in August.

Later subsequent search warrants led detectives to indentified Bieret as the owner, officials said.

Fairfax detectives conducted a search warrant on Bieret's home and recovered various electronics.

A press release stated:

"Subsequent search warrants led detectives to the identity of the owner of the Dropbox account."

"Yesterday, detectives executed a search warrant on his home and recovered multiple electronics."

Bieret works as a program manager for the sergeant-at-arms, the chief law enforcement, and the protocol officer for the House of Representatives.

He is responsible for maintaining order in the House side of the U.S. Capitol complex.

Bieret is listed as having worked for Congress since 2004, Legistorm, a tracking site, revealed.

CNN reported:

"Bieret also briefly worked for the US Capitol Police as a civilian in the Security Services Bureau front office, USCP confirmed to CNN.

"He came from the House Sergeant-at-Arms office to work for USCP from April 2019 to September 2020, before returning to the House's law enforcement officers, according to the USCP."
