Last year, Neon Nettle reported on Midler blasting "the church," calling for it to pay taxes while suggesting Christians should pay reparations.
Midler put the tweet out on the day after Thanksgiving where she criticized churches and religious institutions for not paying taxes.

Midler tweeted in response from an individual named “Kat.”
"Amen, and while we are examining our history, let’s discuss the untold misery the church has inflicted upon indigenous peoples and 'heretics' for the last 2000 years."
"How about some reparations for them? Or just an apology?
"The oldest CORPORATION in the world."

Earlier this year, Midler also claimed without evdience that Donald Trump “killed people at the insurrection.”
Despite Midler tweeting the false claim to her millions of followers, Twitter failed to slap a manipulated media tag on her post.
“#DonaldTrump KILLED people at the Insurrection," she tweeted.
"If he had put a gun to their heads, he could not have done a more efficient job,” Midler added.
“And two policemen killed themselves from shame.
"Have you no hearts, #Republicans?
"Never, ever again, say ‘#BlueLivesMatter.’
"You’re f**king liars,” she concluded.
