‘Anti-Capitalist’ AOC Wears 'Tax the Rich' Gown at $30k-per-Ticket Met Gala
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shredded on social media for dress
Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) wore a dress with a "tax the rich" slogan on it at the luxurious Met Gala in New York, where tickets start from $30,000 each.
AOC's choice of clothing drew a mixed response on social media, as some pointed out her hypocrisy for attending such an event while pushing a socialist statement, while others praised her.
Tickets for the star-studded Met Gala don't come cheap, starting at least $30,000, the Associated Press reported.
Whether Ocasio-Cortez purchased a ticket is not yet known.
Ocasio-Cortez is one of the most prominent progressive voices supporting Biden’s $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package.
The progressive Democrat has continually called for increased taxes on the wealthiest Americans for climate-friendly infrastructure and expanded access to free healthcare.
Ocasio-Cortez said she and the dress's designer, Aurora James, discussed "what it means to be working-class women of color at the Met."
"And we said, we can't just play along, but we need to break the fourth wall and challenge some of the institutions, and while the Met is known for its spectacle, we should have a conversation about it," Ocasio-Cortez said.
Last year, Ocasio-Cortez was blasted on social media after she promoted her line of over-priced merch that includes $65 "Eat the Rich" shirts.
AOC embraced capitalism by peddling $65 shirts that say, "Tax The Rich" on them, according to The Blaze.
