FBI Agent Investigating Child Sex Crimes Is Charged with Child Sex Crimes
Florida authorities issued an arrest warrant for Harris on 27 August
An FBI agent and Army Reserve Colonel tasked with investigating sex crimes against children has been charged with child sex crimes across three states dating back to 2016.
Louisiana investigators found evidence on David Harris, 51, that will allow him to be charged in states Louisiana, Texas, and Florida.
Harris is now being charged with one count each of aggravated crimes against nature and indecent behavior with a juvenile in Ascension Parish, Louisiana.
A court heard his case and issued an indictment in August, which referenced two victims under age 17 and offenses that occurred in 2016.
Harris is charged with exposing himself to two teenage girls on multiple occasions, KETK reported.
Harris also had an affair with the mother of one of the girls, reports say.
Florida authorities issued an arrest warrant for Harris on 27 August regarding indecent exposure charges from an incident in 2019 when he was on vacation.
Investigators found evidence "of criminal acts by Harris involving both adult and juvenile victims with incidents occurring as far back as 2016," the reports say.
A statement was issued from the Louisiana State Patrol to Army Times regarding Harris's alleged offenses.
The statement reads:
"Harris was arrested in Ascension Parish and booked on charges of Aggravated Crimes Against Nature and Indecent Behavior with Children under the age of 13.
"Upon release from Ascension Parish Jail, Harris will be booked on outstanding warrants in Orleans Parish for Sexual Battery and Attempted 3rd Degree Rape and warrants in East Baton Rouge Parish for Aggravated Crimes Against Nature, Indecent Behavior with Juveniles, Obscenity, and Witness Intimidation."
According to KETK, a complaint from the father of one of Harris' alleged victims was received by the Department of Justice's inspector general office in February 2021.
The father discovered Harris' alleged crimes after catching his wife having an affair with Harris.
Harris worked as an infantry officer who was qualified as a foreign area officer for the 76th Operational Response Command while he committed the crimes.
Harris also worked as a supervisory special agent for the FBI and worked for the agency's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
His next court date is October 19.
Harris is currently in jail without a bond.
He has not pled guilty to all charges that are pending against him.
