Trump: I’d ‘Certainly Consider’ Ron DeSantis as a Running Mate
'I would certainly consider Ron'
President Donald Trump has reiterated that he would “certainly consider” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as his running mate if he runs in 2024.
Trump, who is yet to rule out a 2024 presidential run, praised the Florida governor and commended him for reopening his state amid the coronavirus pandemic.
During an interview on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Company” Trump called DeSantis a "great guy" for his work as governor in the Sunshine State.
Host Stuart Varney asked Trump:
“If you were to run for the presidency in 2024, would you consider Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, as your running mate?”
“Sure I would, but, you know, there are numerous people that are great."
“I would certainly consider Ron.”
“I was at the beginning of Ron, I was the first one to endorse him when he came out as a congressman that a lot of people didn’t know, and my endorsement helped him tremendously, and I know him very well."
"He’s a great guy," Trump added.
"We have other great people."
"I mean, you look at some of … the Republican people that have done a great job with states, and you don’t see that with the Democrats," he added.
"I mean, they kept their states closed and locked down, and the schools are closed."
"It’s just absolutely outrageous how they get away with it.”
Last month, Trump said he was "100%" thinking about running for reelection in 2024 and that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) would "certainly" be considered as his running mate.
Trump described Governor DeSantis as "a friend of mine" and "a great guy."
"I endorsed Ron and after I endorsed him he took off like a rocket ship," Trump continued.
"He’s done a great job as governor," Trump noted.
