Gov. Abbott Vows to Defend Texas Border: 'They Came into the Wrong State'
Texas is now 'stepping up' to fight against the flood of human traffickers
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has vowed to do everything within his power to prevent more unlawful crossings into his state amid the growing border crisis.
U.S. Border Patrol has released sobering statistics highlighting how bad the border situation has become.
Gov. Abbott described the recent action he has taken to prevent illegal border crossing, waring those attempting to make the crossing that they came to the "wrong state."
He also explained that drugs, dangerous gangs, and cartels are pouring into the state's communities.
Abbot told The Blaze:
"Beginning in March, I deployed a thousand Texas Department of Public Safety officers to the border."
"I deployed the National Guard to the border. And they made well over a thousand arrests of some of these criminals we talked about."
"They've apprehended more than 33,000 illegal immigrants coming across the border," Abbott said.
"But because of the way the Biden administration has abandoned the border, we are now elevating our game," he added.
"What I did yesterday, in response to more than a dozen counties along the border ... I granted their request for a disaster declaration," he added.
Abbott said how the disaster declaration permits Texas to crack down on lawbreakers, including, smuggling, human trafficking, and criminal trespassing.
"We're going to begin arresting everybody coming across the border and charging them with criminal trespass and putting them in jail."
"They are coming in here, thinking they'll get the Biden free-ride, and go wherever they want to go. Not in the state of Texas," he added.
"We'll start arresting them right and left, and putting them behind bars, and saying they came into the wrong state."
When Abbott was asked if he was prepared for the "media onslaught," he replied:
"We're prepared to see a reduction in the number of people coming across the border — because Texas is enforcing the law, period."
Abbott's remarks come after Donald Trump blasted Biden after officially ending the “Remain in Mexico” program.
Trump said Biden is facilitating the “greatest border disaster in history.”
Biden suspended the Remain in Mexico program immediately after taking office, which was implemented to tackle asylum fraud.
Biden then instructed the top Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to form a plan to release 25,600 migrants enrolled in the program into the U.S. interior.
