Cuomo Issues Warning to Unvaccinated People
New york Governor faces backlash over comments
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned that unvaccinated people could kill their grandmas with a kiss.
Cuomo, who is facing the nursing home scandal in which he is accused of purposely directing nursing homes to accept recovering COVID-19 patients at their facilities resulting in massive deaths, said his state was targeting the "youthful" and the "doubtful" to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Cuomo said those who refuse vaccines believe "they’ll be fine" and warned unvaccinated people could have a "lingering consequence" of the coronavirus.
He warned New Yorkers that visiting their grandmother before receiving a vaccine could kill them.
"Or maybe you go home and kiss your grandmother, and wind up killing your grandmother," said Cuomo.
Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean said Cuomo had "some nerve" going after unvaccinated people visiting elder relatives following his nursing home scandal.
"He has some nerve shaming others for possibly endangering their grandparents," Dean said.
"Over 15,000 elderly are no longer with us thanks in part to his deadly policy to re-admit infected patients into nursing homes."
"If anyone knows how to kill a grandma, it’s Andrew Cuomo."
Earlier this year, Cuomo’s rating dropped six points following the news of the number of coronavirus-related deaths in nursing homes covered up by his administration, according to a Morning Consult survey.
The survey showed Cuomo with 57 percent approval.
The figures show a six-point drop from the 63 percent approval taken before the cover-up revelations.
Cuomo's administration then revealed at least 15,000 people living in long-term care facilities have died of COVID-19, nearly double the number Cuomo had initially disclosed.
Christina Greer, a political science professor at Fordham University, said:
"The nursing homes story really exposed quite a bit about questions about his leadership style and the success of his leadership during COVID."
"The governor wrote a book touting his accomplishments, and we don't know if we're halfway out of the pandemic."
“COVID-19 resident deaths associated with nursing homes in New York state appear to be undercounted by DOH by approximately 50 percent,” a report from New York Attorney General Letitia James has determined.
