Kamala Harris has said the U.S.-Mexico border crisis is "not going to be fixed overnight," despite not giving an official press conference on the matter for 21 days.

Harris still hasn't spoken to El Salvador or Honduras leaders, which make up the so-called "Northern Triangle" along with Guatemala, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Her silence undermines the White House claims Harris has been focused on the Northern Triangle nations and the "root causes" of the migrant crisis.

Harris has been facing criticism from Republicans for not making visits to U.S. border regions, and not holding a press conference.

Harris stated that working with the Northern Triangle leaders would address "the most intractable issues" behind the migrant crisis, the Times reported.

Harris told the Times that the Biden administration needs to build "incentives for investment" in the Central American nations, so their citizens remain there.

Last month, Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey slammed Harris, saying she was "the worst possible choice” to manage the growing crisis and the U.S-Mexico border.

Ducey said during a speech at the University of Arizona:

“She’s about the worst possible choice that one could make."

“In no point in her career has she given any indication that she considers the border a problem or a serious threat.”

Harris also faced backlash after laughing when a reporter asked if she planned to visit the southern border.

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., wrote on Twitter last month:

"Kamala Harris laughs at a reporter who asked her if she has plans to visit the border. Don’t believe this administration when they say they are serious about solving this crisis."
