Teens Get Cushy Plea Deal for Murdering Uber Driver - No Jail Time
Teenage girls won't face prison for killing Mohammad Anwar during brutal carjacking
Two teenage girls accused of brutally murdering an Uber driver in Washington D.C. have landed a cushy plea that will see them escape prison.
Earlier this month, the teens were filmed killing 66-year-old Mohammad Anwar during a shocking carjacking attack in broad daylight.
The bone-chilling murder was caught on camera by a witness as the events unfolded.
The video shows the 13 and 15-year-old girls attempting a carjacking against Anwar.
Anwar resists as they try to steal his vehicle and they speed off with him half inside the open driver's door before rolling the car and flinging his lifeless body onto the sidewalk.
Instead of fleeing the scene of the wreckage, one of the girls calmly rummages through the vehicle to find her cellphone before comfortably walking past her victim’s motionless body.
The suspects' plea bargain should be reached in the coming days, but it’s unclear if it will fully resolve the case, according to the Washington Post.
The girls are due back in court on April 20 to discuss the status of the case, the outlet said.
The pair, ages 13 and 15, have been charged with felony murder, carjacking, and armed robbery in the deadly incident, which they allegedly carried out near Nationals Park in the Southeast section of the nation’s capital, according to the New York Post.
Under DC law, the 13-year-old can’t be charged as an adult — even in a murder case, according to the WaPo report.
The 15-year-old suspect could be charged as an adult, but that would increase the burden of proof on prosecutors, the report said.
In juvenile court in the district, defendants who are found “responsible” — meaning guilty — may only be jailed until the age of 21, according to the outlet.
Driver Anwar was killed during the attempted carjacking as the two girls, allegedly armed with a Taser, tried to navigate the car down the street, cops said.

Anwar, who was hanging onto the vehicle, was fatally injured when the girls crashed, according to cops.
The Pakistani immigrant, who lived in nearby Virginia, suffered a head injury and later died, police said.
A GoFundMe for the victim’s family has raised over a million dollars.
“We will carry him with us always, but it doesn’t take the pain away of losing him so tragically and so unexpectedly soon,” read part of a statement on the family’s GoFundMe page.
