Newsom Blasts Gov. Abbott's Decision to Open Up Texas: 'Absolutely Reckless'
California governor slams Texas for reopening
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom slammed Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott after he announced his state would be lifting the coronavirus restrictions and opening again.
On Tuesday, Abbott announced that Texans would no longer be required to wear masks beginning March 10th.
The Lone Star State governor added he would also rescind past executive orders and allow businesses to operate at maximum capacity.

I also ended the statewide mask mandate.
Abbott said during the press conference:
“Too many Texans have been sidelined from employment opportunities."
“Too many small business owners have struggled to pay their bills."
"This must end. It is now time to open Texas 100%.”
Meanwhile, Newsom who is facing a recall effort that has already garnered over 1.8 million signatures, called Abbott’s decision “absolutely reckless.”

Texas had fewer COVID-19 deaths than either California and New York.
But 96% of California’s population remains under the most restrictive tier with an indoor dining ban.
The number of cases and deaths continue to plunge in Texas, while the seven-day rolling average of positive tests is down to approximately 7,600 cases, Fox News reported.
Newsom was caught flouting his own lockdown rules last year after being photographed dining inside the luxurious French Laundry restaurant in Napa.
Abbott followed up after his tweet announcing the lifting of lockdown restrictions:
- More than 7 million vaccinations will be given by next week.
- We do about 1 million a week.
- We gave 216,000 shots today alone.
- More than 50% of the seniors will be vaccinated.
- Hospitalizations & the positivity rate are lowest in 4 months.
- All Texans know the safe practices.
