Fox News Loses Trump Base: No Longer 'Most Trusted Source,’ Poll Shows
Viewers turning to NewsMax and OANN
Fox News has lost its base of loyal President Trump's supporters as a new poll suggests the cable news network is "no longer their most trusted source of news."
Throughout Trump's presidency, Fox News enjoyed massive viewer ratings, overtaking its left-wing counterparts like CNN and MSMBC.
But things have taken a turn for the worst for Fox.
According to a new USA Today/Suffolk Poll, just 34% of Trump voters named Fox News as their "most trusted source of news."
The figure is a huge 24% drop from the poll in October 2016, when 58% of Trump supporters declared Fox was their most trusted news source.
Trump voters are now finding a new home in newcomers like Newsmax and One American News Network.
The poll found that 17% of Trump voters see Newsmax as their most trusted source of news, and 9% trust OANN.
"At the time of our October 2016 poll, OANN and Newsmax were barely 2 years old, so they were not offered as options," David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, said.
"However, we do not believe that in 2016 they would have been trusted the most by a statistically significant portion of respondents."
Newsmax and OANN are now taking away Fox's bread and butter.
92% of Newsmax viewers believe Joe Biden was "illegitimately elected," while 90% of OANN watchers question the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.
When asked who they would choose between Donald Trump and the Republican Party, those who trust Fox News skew 51%-37% in favor of Trump.
But 72% of those who trusted Newsmax chose Trump over the GOP, while the percentage jumps for Trump for OANN viewers.
Last month, Neon Nettle reported on the dismal ratings of Fox News have taken another plunge to third place behind competitors CNN and MSNBC following its coverage of the U.S. Capitol riots.
Since they have shifted narratives away from its conservative viewership, it has taken a turn for the worst.
Between Jan. 4 and Jan. 10, Fox News garnered 1.7 million daily viewers, according to the latest rating data reported by Nielsen.
But that fell short of CNN, which saw 2.8 million daily viewers.
Meanwhile, left-wing outlet MSNBC garnered 2.3 million daily viewers.
