Biden 'Terminates' Trump’s National Emergency as 'Final Step' to End Border Wall
Trump's border wall construction is stopped dead
The White House has announced Joe Biden has terminated Donald Trump's national emergency order, which effectively ends the construction of the border wall between the United States and Mexico.
In "A Letter to the Speaker Of The House And President Of The Senate Regarding the Termination of the National Emergency Concerning the Southern Border," Biden wrote:
“I have determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border was unwarranted.”
“I have also announced that it shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall, and that I am directing a careful review of all resources appropriated or redirected to that end,” the letter continued.
In 2019, Trump allocated $8 billion from various federal agencies to fund the wall along as he declared a national emergency.
Biden issued an executive order on the first day of his administration titled “Proclamation on the Termination Of Emergency With Respect To The Southern Border Of The United States And Redirection Of Funds Diverted To Border Wall Construction,” descriving the wall as “not a serious policy solution,” and “a waste of money that diverts attention from genuine threats to our homeland security.”
The Biden administration also said that authorities would turn away migrants coming to the U.S.-Mexico border seeking asylum because of the coronavirus pandemic.
"The vast majority of people will be turned away," White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Wednesday.
Trump's declaration of a national emergency was described as “unwarranted" by the order, and it “shall be the policy of [Biden’s] Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall.”
The order also instructed the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security to “pause work on each construction project on the southern border wall.”

Trump used a national emergency at the border for the wall in 2019, stating, “The current situation at the southern border presents a border security and humanitarian crisis that threatens core national security interests and constitutes a national emergency.”
The southern border is the main entry point for criminals, including human traffickers, gang members, and illicit narcotics.
In addition to the order, Biden is also expected to sign a new executive order to roll back deportations of illegal aliens convicted of certain lower-level crimes in America.
The move was revealed by internal communications reviewed by the Washington Post and nearly confirmed by White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
Democrats have long rejected the existence of any such “emergency” and fought against Trump's border wall for the majority of his presidency.
