Tech giant Twitter told a victim of child sexual abuse video that widely circulated on the platform "did not violate its policies," according to a lawsuit filed by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

The victim, only known as John Doe, alleges Twitter allowed the abuse video, filmed when he was just 13 years old, to go viral and rack up hundreds of thousands of views.

But it was only when an agent from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) got involved in the case that Twitter complied, according to the lawsuit.

But by the time the tech giant decided to comply, the video already accumulated over 165,000 views, according to the allegations.

The New York Post reported:

Two complaints were filed by Doe’s mother to Twitter, who reported the same material and for a week but received no response, according to the suit.

Twitter finally replied to Doe on Jan. 28 to inform her they would not be removing the material.

By that time, according to the suit, the video had amassed over 167,000 views and 2,223 retweets.

“Thanks for reaching out. We’ve reviewed the content, and didn’t find a violation of our policies."

"So that no action will be taken at this time."

The lawsuit also stated that Twitter knowingly allows pedophiles to use the platform to exchange material depicting child sex abuse while profiting from their activity by using ad systems.

Twitter also made money from the video of the victim’s abuse, the lawsuit adds.

Two private law firms and the National Center on Sexual Exploitation brought the lawsuit to the tech giant.

It will be heard in the Northern District of California.

The news comes after Twitter's founder and CEO. Jack Dorsey defended President Donald Trump's recent purging and mass censorship of conservatives on his platform, claiming it was the "right decision."
