Portland Mayor Begs For Federal Help After Admitting Defeat Against Antifa
Remarks come days after Antifa rioters attacked police with firebombs
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler has admitted failure in dealing with the violent far-left group Antifa.
The Mayor asked for federal and state assistance in dealing with the lawlessness from Antifa, who have ravaged the city.
Wheeler said in a New Year’s Day press conference:
“My good-faith efforts at de-escalation have been met with ongoing violence and even scorn from radical Antifa and anarchists."
“In response, it will be necessary to use additional tools and to push the limits of the tools we already have to bring the criminal destruction and violence to an end.”
“It’s time to push back harder against those who are set on destroying our community and to take more risks in fighting lawlessness,” he added.
The news comes just days after Antifa rioters attacked police with firebombs and fireworks during a New Year’s Eve incident.

The far-left rioters also attacked the courthouse and multiple downtown businesses.
Antifa rioters threw Molotov cocktail-style firebombs and firebombs at police as officers tried to defend the downtown business district and the federal courthouse.
“We should be clear what this was last night, it was about violence and criminal destruction, period,” Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said during the press conference.
Mayor Wheeler called on federal law enforcement partners to help develop “clear plans to address anarchist violence.”
This year, Neon Nettle reported that Wheeler joined protest crowds in his city, who started rioting while he was amongst the mobs.
At the time, Wheeler's security detail reportedly struggled to recover the mayor from the violent crowd.
Wheeler ended up getting tear-gassed by the feds.
In his New Year’s Day statement, Wheeler talked tough again, saying:
“We need more accountability, and we need to hold people responsible for their criminal conduct.”
“It’s the height of selfishness,” Wheeler concluded.
“There are just some people who want to watch the world burn. That’s what we’re up against here.”
