Attorney General William Barr was aware of the probe into Hunter Biden's shady business dealings for months but kept the information hidden from the public, according to reports.
The concealment of information about the investigation into the former vice president's son came even as President Donald Trump publicly called for probes into Hunter.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Barr was reportedly briefed before about investigations into Biden earlier this year, which Biden revealed on Wednesday.
Biden said prosecutors contacted his attorney with the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware regarding an investigation into his “tax affairs.”
"I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs," the younger Biden said.
According to a source familiar with the investigation, the probe began in 2018, and the attorneys’ contact with Biden’s lawyers indicated the probe had moved from a “covert” to an “overt” stage.

Other reports also suggest that Biden is being investigated for an issue relating to money laundering.
The investigations are scrutinizing Biden’s business deals with CEFC China Energy, a prominent Chinese energy conglomerate which Biden received approximately $6 million in 2017 and 2018, CNN reported.

The news that Barr knew of the investigation has riled President Donald Trump and his Republican allies.

The Journal reported that Barr took steps to circumvent having to provide information to Republican members of Congress about the investigations.
“Congressional Republicans are furious that Barr never told us the news, even in confidence,” a source who works on Capitol Hill told the DCNF.
Trump took aim at the Justice Department earlier this week.

The president also reacted angrily to Barr's recent statement that the Justice Department had not seen enough evidence of voter fraud to overturn the election.
Trump also blasted Barr for the somewhat stagnant developments regarding the origins of the Trump-Russia probe investigation.
