SNL Star Calls Americans ‘Babies’ For Protesting Lockdowns Destroying Livelihoods
'Yeah, man, they’re making us look like babies'
Star of “Saturday Night Live," Pete Davidson, made fun of residents of his hometown of Staten Island by calling them "babies" for protesting the latest COVID restrictions which are destroying livelihoods.
Davidson began the segment:
“The bar, shockingly, is in a neighborhood with the second-highest COVID infections in all of New York, so the rule is that they’re supposed to let people eat or drink outside, and the owner said no one wants to do that because they’ll go out of business."
“So I take it you found these protests frustrating?” asked his co-star, Colin Jost.
“Yeah, man, they’re making us look like babies,” Davidson said before urging everyone to stay at home.
As Neon Nettle reported earlier this month:
The co-owner of a New York City bar was arrested and taken away in handcuffs following a raid on his establishment by a group of sheriffs.
Mac’s Public House in Staten Island was raided after the owners refused to obey state and city mandates related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pub had ignored Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo's shutdown order and instead remained open, declaring itself an "autonomous zone."
Well paid Davidson's comments were made as he is shielded by such orders affecting his source of income.
Last week, The New York Times reported that “SNL” was able to find a loophole to keep their live studio audience indoors by paying them as “essential employees” of NBC.
A resident activist in State Island known as Mr. Tobacco responded to Davidson’s attacks calling his words “disgusting” and a betrayal to the Staten Island community.
“The ignorance level is so high now that you have mega-millionaires who are in the national spotlight, like the folks on ‘Saturday Night Live’ … making fun of their friends and the local business owners who are broke and crushed and bankrupt,” Mr. Tobacco said.
“What they want to do is go on national TV and try to humiliate the little man while he’s down.”
Twitter users were also quick to note Davidson's cushy position at SNL as he mocked struggling Americans.

"Meanwhile every person who works on Broadway is out of luck until June 2021 even though, y'know, sitting in the audience at a show vs at SNL is the same thing. Guess they can't pay $150 to each audience member."
