Black Pastors Coalition Slams Kamala Harris for Praising Black Lives Matter Founders
Group blasts Democrat vice-presidential candidate for celebrating 'brilliance' of BLM
A coalition of black pastors has slammed Democratic [vice] presidential nominee Kamala Harris for praising the so-called "brilliance" of the Black Lives Matter's founders, according to reports.
Sen. Harris (D-CA) celebrated BLM's founders during an interview with CNN commentator Angela Rye for the NAACP's Fall Leadership Conference.
Joe Biden's running mate praised the “impact” of Black Lives Matters protests, deeming them “necessary” in remarks that led some on social media to slam her as “insane.”
“Nothing that we have achieved that has been about progress, in particular around civil rights, has come without a fight, and so I always am going to interpret these protests as an essential component of evolution in our country — as an essential component or mark of a real democracy,” Harris said during the virtual convention on Friday.
The Democratic candidate argued that the protests were “necessary” because “the people’s voices must be heard, and it is often the people who must speak to get their government to do what it is supposed to do, but may not do naturally unless the people speak loudly — and obviously peacefully.”
While praising the “brilliance” of Black Lives Matter, Harris failed to criticize the ongoing violence at rallies held in the organization’s name in cities across the country, nor the shooting of two police officers in Louisville.
“I actually believe that ‘Black Lives Matter’ has been the most significant agent for change within the criminal justice system,” the former California attorney general said.
Critics slammed her support for the group, whose co-founder described herself as a “trained Marxist” in 2015.
Many suggested she was supporting riots, violence, and intimidation.
A coalition of black pastors, The Conservative Clergy of Color, took serious issue with Harris's praise for the Black Lives Matter movement and its founders, the Christian Post reported.
In a statement to the Post, the coalition's co-founder Bishop Aubrey Shines said BLM is not an organization Harris should be commending in any way.
"It's extremely disheartening to see a U.S. Senator and a candidate for vice president give such high praise to a group that is trying to destroy our country," Shines told the Post.
"Does Sen. Harris not watch the news?" the pastor asked.
"Has she not seen the businesses burning, the livelihoods that have been wrecked by this organization?
"People are terrified, but we have to praise the organizers because it's the cool thing to do."
Shines went on to point out that BLM has recently tried to scrub much of its more insidious agenda from its public face.
As Fox News reported last week, the group was caught removing anti-nuclear family and "cisgender privilege" content from its list of goals and statement of beliefs.
"Until recently these people made no secret about their agenda," Shines continued in the statement to the Post.
"They were loud and proud about their anti-American goals until the violence they've instigated started affecting their favorability.
"The only 'brilliant' thing I can see is how quickly BLM's website operators scrubbed their agenda to be more appealing.
"This is not a group that needs to be praised.
"More Americans are beginning to see that, and I hope Sen. Harris will too."
